Got a cat in my window
the sun’s shining through
I open my eyes after dreaming of you
He listens intently to the singing of birds
While I’m composing this song
and fishing for words
I keep your picture on the desk by my bed
Your voice is still singing inside my head
All winter I woke up alone in the dark
Now the summer sings softly
like a sweet meadowlark

Gonna stretch out the morning,
gonna savour this time
Gonna lie back on this pillow and think of a rhyme
Yet the pillow beside me lies all white and bare
Once cradled your face and soft brown hair

In this light, I awaken and open my eyes
The sorrow’s much deeper
than I could ever have realized
With a tear and a smile, I greet the new day
My heart has been broken, but beauty remains
